Going back over a month now, the kids and I got back from Michigan on a Wednesday evening. That evening I started unpacking and put the kids to bed tired! Thursday morning we woke up and took it easy, while preparing for grandma and grandpa Rol to arrive! They arrived around four in the afternoon I think - took a cab from the airport. I was telling the kids that grandma and grandpa would be here soon and I think they were expecting grandmama Ott... since we had just left her the day before! When grandma and grandpa came up the front steps, it took a few minutes but the kids figured out what was what (or rather, who was who). It made me debate whether it was wise to have both grandmas go by "grandma" but that's what it is. The kids will figure it out. (Anyway, grandma Ott is technically "grandmama.")
We had a great week with grandma and grandpa in town. They stayed for 12 days, two weekends and one whole week in between. Grandma Rol called herself the "granny nanny" since she was watching the kids (primarily) while Dick and I worked. Grandpa worked on bathroom remodeling stuff and also hung out with the kids.
We stayed home a lot but also got to go out and do some fun things. The kids took a lot of walks around the block with grandma and they developed a routine of marching, shuffling, etc at certain parts of the walk. :-) They also took a few trips to Lowe's together and the kids were always well-behaved and content in the carts.
We celebrated the kids' second birthday while grandma and grandpa were here. All of us, along with Uncle Pete went to Station Tavern for dinner. They have a little play area and outdoor seating. The kids had fun playing and ate a nice "bar and grill" dinner! We got them some cupcakes and put them on the table while we waited for our waitress to get a lighter to light the candles. The kids were really excited about the cupcakes, reaching, yelling and starting to whine they wanted them so bad! The waitress finally came with the lighter and we sang Happy Birthday. Then we gave the kids each a cupcake and they had no idea what to do with it! Again (like last year) they were not the least bit interested in eating cake! Even when we tried to feed them some of the cupcakes, they were not interested. Pretty funny...
Unfortunately, time has gone by so my memory is starting to fade about our visit. We made some great progress on our bathroom remodel, and both grandma and grandpa were very helpful in this department! They are wonderful houseguests too - even though we don't even have a guest room, or bed for them to sleep on!
Our computer is temporarily in the shop so I don't have a lot of photos available to post. But here are a few.
