All of us crabby!

I'm crabby today. I have the right, right!? The kids aren't the only ones allowed to be crabby. (Ok, I can muster a little smile about that... :-) )

I woke up annoyed because I was annoyed when I went to bed last night. Then Jackson decided to be the clingy one first thing this morning (instead of Veronica). He wanted me to hold him while I walked around the house. I couldn't put him down. I couldn't sit on the couch or floor holding him. I had to walk around holding him! Finally managed to get breakfast on the table and everyone cheered up a little. Then the kids played for a while and I tried to clean up. They started getting crabby and grabby - fighting over toys. Things escalated so I broke down and put Elmo on.

Jackson was mesmerized for the next 30 minutes. Veronica was certainly happier but still looking for me and trying to get me to hold her a little. While Elmo finished up, the kids got a little needy again but I managed to get the kitchen cleaned up, get the kids dressed and get myself dressed without killing anyone.

Then we headed out. We went to Mission Trails Park. It's an open-space park with lots of hiking and a really cool visitor's center. We went there a few weeks ago and it was quite successful! The kids really enjoyed it. Last time we spent most of the time in the visitor's center so I wanted to take a short hike this time. So did Jackson. Veronica, however, wanted me to carry her. I can only do that for so long! Eventually, Jackson wanted to be held too and holding both is nearly impossible anymore! So we managed to make it back to the visitor's center with only one mini-tantrum on the ground.

Once at the visitor's center they got more comfortable and happy again. They explored a little and then it was time to go. I ran a quick errand and then decided to get us all Taco Bell on the way home. Mistake. The drive-thru line was long and SLOW! I was really clenching my poor jaw by the time we got to the window!

Got home, fed the kids (oops, forgot that Taco Bell's cheese quesadilla has hot stuff in it). They were hungry but the tiredness started showing through culminating in all the food thrown on the floor! Usually, they very willingly help me pick it up off the floor when they're done eating. This time I had to guide Jackson's hand to pick up the pieces of food and put them on a plate. In the process he flung away from me hitting his head on the rocking chair.

I'm DONE by now. We skipped our usual naptime routine and went straight to diaper-changes. I plopped them in their cribs (captive, ha ha!) and read them a story. Then I was outta there. Haven't heard from since, thankfully.

Maybe a shower will help me change my mood. Or maybe I'll give in to it and just be crabby today! So there!

  2. Whew, glad I'm not the only to have those kinds of days... sheesh. Scented candles, hot water, good book, hot cocoa, and fuzzy clothes... sometimes help.

  4. I'm amazed that you don't have more of those days. Wish I were there to give you a day off or at least a helping hand. Just remember.... they won't be this little forever.
