Mother's Day!

Today is Mother's Day.  It's almost 9 pm, and we had a lovely day!  The kids are now asleep (or at least in their bedroom!)

Raising these kids is a dichotomy every day for me - wavering between loving my kids so much and wanting to savor every moment with them...  and wishing for some alone time, a break from the constant EVERYTHING that is four year old twins.  (Constant talking, constant questions, constant needs/wants, constant attention needed!)

This morning Jackson woke me around 7:45.  The fact that I was still asleep tells you I was tired and groggy.  But I got up, and things were a little grumpy at first.  I got dressed to go running and thankfully daddy got up (way earlier than usual!) and helped take the pressure off me while I got ready and left the house.

I had a hot, shin-splinty run but was happy to get out in the outdoors and get some exercise.  I came home to a down-home country breakfast!  Daddy made my favorite anti-workout foods...  bacon and biscuits and gravy!  Talk about a fattening, filling meal!  Good thing I ran.

After that we hung out a bit, I got showered and the kids and I went to run errands.  Not really the best way to enjoy an afternoon with four year old twins.  But daddy needed to get some work done because he has a bitch of a week ahead.  So the kids and I went to no less than four stores trying to find a kiddie pool and colored hair spray.  We were gone for HOURS!  And considering that, J and V were really well behaved and tolerant of our wild goose chase!  We were all tired when we got home!

We had a snacky lunch while the new kiddie pool filled up.  The kids had a short, 45-minute "quiet time" while I internetted and attempted a nap.  I was too late!  Only slept about five minutes when Jackson came in and woke me up!  Or was it Veronica?  I can't remember...

Then we had popcicles and the kids played in the cold water in the kiddie pool!  It was probably 85 degrees today but the backyard was shady by 4 pm and the hose water was cold.  But it didn't stop the kids!  They love playing in the water!

Oh, while I was napping daddy made brownies!!  AND he had planned to cook cheesy brats for dinner!  Oh no you don't!  Too much fat today.  I decided to save the brats for another day and have a low fat dinner.  So I grilled some nice fish and corn.  And Gaga helped me make a creamy herbed sauce for the fish.  Yum!

Then we skyped with grandma and grandpa Rol for a bit before an abrupt bedtime!  The day had gotten away from us - filled with everyday activities made more fun and fulfilling by two sweet, innocent, smart four year olds.  I'm so glad they're my kids!

(Oh, the colored hair spray...  that's for Crazy Hair Day tomorrow.  Daddy has to leave early in the morning for work so I get to go in to work late tomorrow so I can do the crazy hair and take the kids to school.  Should be fun!)
