Why won't they sleep anymore?

Before I complain, I must state upfront that I'm VERY lucky. These babies sleep GREAT compared to many - even when they aren't sleeping well! But...

For the last few days, they haven't been wanting to sleep. They've been having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep - for both naps AND nighttime. Usually, if they have problems with naps, that's one thing, but they almost never had trouble going to bed at night. Veronica has always been the worse napper. She will often only get two 45 min naps... the last few days she's not even gotten that much! She just won't go to sleep... she's fighting it. Crying. Even last night she finally fell asleep in my arms but when I laid her down in the crib she woke up and started crying...

Ok, so "BAD" for us is me having to work for 30 min to get them to sleep. So, like I said before, it's not THAT bad...

And this morning, although they woke at 3 am, 4:30 am, 6 am, and 6:30 am (very unusual lately) , I was able to very quickly (40 seconds) quiet them (binky!) and go back to sleep. THEN, they fought their 8:30 nap and I thought I was in trouble. It took 30 min to get them both to sleep. Veronica woke once and I reinserted her binky. Then they both slept for over 2 hours! Thank you, lord!!

We'll see how the next nap goes...

They may be sensing something going on at home. Our new nanny has been here for two days and I go back to work tomorrow. OR, they may be teething (I don't feel anything?) OR, they may be on the cusp of some new development...

Either way, I'm trying to find a happy medium between giving them extra love and "babying," and keeping consistent with our sleep "training."

  1. ah yes, their schedules are constantly changing. I babysat Maggie last night and Roger tried to put her down twice between 8:15 and 8:45 - unsuccessfully. After watching her rub her eyes around 9 and I thougt 'okay, now's the time'. I said 'Maggie, ready for bed?'. put my hand out to walk her down the hallway to her room. And she came along and went down with no problem. Okay, I did let her take a sippy cup with water with her and we didn't make her stay when she wasn't ready, but ultimately, she went down without a fuss. She is just so cute!
