Gotta like spontaneity (even if it was an accident.) I decided to take the day off today so the four of us could go to the Big Balloon Parade in downtown San Diego. But last night Jackson had a terrible sounding cough, and we were already worried about the traffic and parking issues, so this morning we decided not to go. But then when Jackson woke up he was a lot better (just a bit of a stuffy/runny nose but not bad at all). So Dick drove downtown to work, and called to tell me that parking was a breeze and there were plenty of spots in his parking lot. I was going to drive to his parking lot, meet him and we'd go to the parade together.
The kids and I got dressed and packed to go in record time, and drove downtown. Indeed there was hardly anyone down there! Daddy met up with us and slowly as we walked to the parade route, I finally realized the Big Balloon Parade is NEXT WEEK! Oops!
Since we were already down on San Diego Bay, we decided to do some sightseeing. We went to the Maritime Museum. We toured two tall ships - The Star of India and the HMS Surprise (the ship that was used in the movie Master and Commander.) Then we toured a submarine! The kids had fun going up and down the stairs and playing in the mini ship inside the Star of India.
Then we sat outside at Anthony's Fish Grotto and had lunch.
It was just like being a tourist in San Diego - it's fun to do that once in a while!
