I did my second ever "race" last weekend. It was the Max's Ring of Fire/Lemon Run - a charity event raising money to fight childhood cancer. It was around Miramar Lake again but this time only 4.6 miles. (The first run I did on July 4th went around the same lake but also did some other areas before and after that.)
I totally struggled and felt like sh!t the whole time! For the first few miles I was just sluggish and tired. And I had shin splints. For about the last 1.5 miles my knees were hurting more and more.
But I finished! I was 35th out of 67 female runners. And 16th out of 22 females in my age range.
Incidentally, I had a physical Monday and my doctor told me that women often get a certain issue with their knees from running because our hips are wider than our feet while walking/running. She recommended strengthening my inner quads by doing leg lifts. Good advice!
