- We were getting out of the car Friday in a parking lot and a car pulled up next to us. Dido's song Thank You was playing really loud in the car. Jackson says to me, "I like that beautiful song ." :-)
- Both kids call a candy cane and "candy can." I have corrected them a number of times but they insist on saying "candy can." So now I just let them. It's cute.
- It's almost 10 o'clock tonight and we put the kids to bed at 8. I just heard Jackson make a noise so went to check on him. Veronica was asleep but Jackson was still awake. He said he couldn't sleep. I asked him if he was scared and he said yes, there was a shadow. We got daddy and all looked for the shadow. We found it and made it go away. Now, hopefully, he'll be able to fall asleep. Poor little dude.
We had a nice weekend. Saturday we spent most of the day getting ready for our company that night. I snuck out early and went grocery shopping at 7:30 am - it was pretty cool actually. Does that count as "me time?" ;-) Then I spent the day cooking and cleaning. I was intending to have dinner ready when our friends arrived. Instead, as prepared as I was, we still didn't eat for an hour after they arrived! Ah well. Sunday I actually spent another few hours recovering from our company (doing dishes mostly). Lot of work but also a lot of fun. These are friends we've known for almost 10 years - our San Diego family - the Gustafs. They have four kids and Chris' mom came too. So we had a total of 11 for dinner including my family of four.
We had a roast, potatoes, carrots and cucumber salad. Much more fattening than the meals Judy usually makes for us! Dorothy made a yummy homemade carrot cake. :-) Chris and Judy have a 14 year old, 12 year old, 7 year old and almost 5 year old (I think I have that right). Our twins love the 7 year old, Anna. They all watched a Tinkerbell movie together which Veronica thought was scary (she's easily scared by movies!) The older kids and grown-ups played a fun game of Taboo!
Then today we used the tiller Judy loaned us to till our raised beds! I'm going to an "Edible Gardening 101" talk Wednesday night! I'm super excited! I want to make our garden a success this year (as opposed to last year's total flop!)
Dick did some more work on the floors this weekend. And he re-lit the pilot on the water heater. I hope that was a one-time deal! Oh, also, Saturday we bought a few new lights for the house - a new chandelier for the dining room, a new ceiling fan for the family room and beautiful table lamp for the living room. On sale of course. :-)
I feel like I've been going all weekend!! What fills all the time is the cooking three meals a day, doing dishes three times a day and doing laundry and cleaning when needed (often!) It's sometimes hard to fit anything else in!
This week will be busy as well. I have plans three nights: Monday twins club, Wednesday gardening talk, Friday mom's night out. Tomorrow the kids are going for a vision check. Maybe a playdate or two tomorrow and Wednesday. Work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Fun stuff!
As busy as we were, we had lots of fun with the kids. They make us smile all the time!
