At work yesterday I got a bee in my bonnet to have a green dinner in honor of St. Patrick's Day. So, on the way home from work I took a fast trip through the grocery store and picked up a bunch of green foods!
In the afternoon, the carpets were getting cleaned so I took advantage of the wood floor in the kitchen, and the kids and I spent the afternoon in the kitchen! First, we made lime green jello! We put sliced kiwi and blueberries in it. (I found out later that the enzymes in kiwi keep the jello from setting. Oops. Maybe* I'll remember that next time!) Then we made homemade pesto! This was my first time making pesto. I forgot to buy pine nuts so we used sunflowers, and it was good! I also bought some collard greens but we didn't have the wherewithal to make those yesterday. (I made them just now for dinner tonight.)
I also bought Green Machine Naked Juice (YUM!) and frosted sugar cookies with green and white sprinkles. We served the pesto for dinner over tri-colored (including green, of course) rotini.
I think we all had fun! I suffered later, though, when Bonnie stepped in some green food coloring and tracked it over our newly cleaned carpets. %^*(@! The stain remover I used made the off-white carpet a little yellow... so I may have to get the cleaner back out here. :-( Bummer.
The rest of St. Paddy's Day was fun, though! I was surprised but happy about how well the kids did cooking for an hour!

I remember making green mashed potatoes lol. NOTE: Hydrogen peroxide is AMAZING at cleaning spots. Roger just spilled grape juice (yes, purple) in the basement.... I just kept doing what I was doing and making suggestions. lol. I defy anyone to see where the spill was. The carpet is a light beige. I tried this years ago on an old spot and it didn't work as well, but as an immediate solution is works great.
ReplyDeleteSounds fun (well, except for the carpet...)!
