Our first swimming lesson

The flying nun (or Veronica in her sun hat!)

Jackson reading a book (I found him this way, I didn't put the book in his hand...)

Dick especially has been so excited about getting the babies into swim lessons. Our first class was this past Saturday! It's one half hour every Saturday for 4 weeks.

The babies did really great, especially considering all the new and loud parts of the experience... I took Veronica with me in the women's locker room. She did not care at all for the loud bathing suit water extractor machine! And the pool was pretty loud too. And totally new for them. But they seemed to enjoy the water.

The class started with a song and introductions. Then we blew bubbles in front the babies' faces to show them how, and so they could see how fun it is. We also held them in front of us and tried to encourage them to kick their legs. We jumped them up and down in the water some. And we pulled them into the water from sitting on the edge. We gradually put their faces in the water. At first they had their mouths open when we put their mouths in. But slowly they learned to close them. We did a few more songs. And played with water toys. We also tried to show them how to float.

Jackson was very smiley and had a crush on the instructor (he's a flirt!) Veronica got a little cranky so she and I got out of the water a few minutes early.

Since there's no way I'm paying for swim classes continuously (some people do!) we are planning to just take the babies to the pool during open swim to practice all the things we learn. It's fun! (But also a lot of work, packing them and us up, and coordinating activity in the locker room...)

  1. This post left me with lots of comments lol. Veronica is like Maggie, cerebral enhanced....she needs a bigger hat lol. Becki found Maggie asleep like Jackson...book on her chest sleeping. And swim classes... as necessary as they are they can be a chore. Isn't it funny how quickly they are inherently flirtatious? What cuties! I'm so glad you started this blog!!!
