Smart kids and Sea World

I swear these kids get smarter and smarter every day. This morning I was loading them in the car to go on our class field trip to Sea World. Jackson was in his car seat and I was strapping Veronica in hers. She was pointing to the house saying, "ow," and I was saying, "Yeah, that's the house," thinking she was saying "house." Then Jackson says, "kee ka, kee ka." And I realized that he was telling me that Veronica was not saying "house" she was saying "meow." Wow, Jackson was helping Veronica communicate with me!

Then for some reason I looked at the house. And realized that one of our cats had gotten out! So really, both of the kids were probably either just commenting on the fact that they saw a cat. Or they were telling me that the cat was out! :-) Funny!

Our trip to Sea World started out slow because we got there around 9 and ended up waiting til almost 10 to get in. Not good for one mommy accompanying two 20 month old toddlers. They didn't want to be in the stroller. But I didn't want to let them wander around (two of them!) in a large crowded parking lot/waiting area.

When we finally got in, I found out that they wouldn't let the stroller in some of the exhibits. So I decided to be brave and let them walk through the Arctic whatever-they-call-it where we'd be able to see beluga whales and polar bears. It went pretty ok. It wasn't too crowded so I could let one of them walk around without holding my hand for minutes at a time. Luckily, in these situations Veronica often wants to be carried, so Veronica and I could follow Jackson around. We had our moments of chaos though including the time both of them wanted to walk off in opposite directions - outside - and neither wanted to hold my hand! At one moment I was on the ground with both of them on the ground fighting me! :-) Luckily, I can laugh about it. Ha ha!

After lunch/snack back in the stroller we went to the seriously glorified playground area and ran around in the baby play area. It's an enclosed, soft matted area with large soft blocks to play with. Jackson ran off and immediately forgot all about Veronica and I. He loves that kind of thing! Veronica hung out with me for 20-30 minutes before she was brave enough to wander around. She finally got about five feet away from me at one time! ;-)

Overall, we had a really great time. Next time, though, we'll take daddy with us!

  1. Parenting... you just can't take it too personal... as you wrestle them to the ground for their own good... What an adventure!

  2. love that they are helping each other communicate with you. They can definitely understand each other. Love the video clip too. That stuff can be hard to walk on...I'm impressed. And I can't believe you attempted to take both of them by yourself. Are you crazy!!?? And I can totally picture them both wanting to go in different directions. Love Veronica's hair
