Snow!

We took the kids to see snow for the first time!

Dick took the afternoon off Friday and we decided to head up to the mountains before the snow melted, and before the weekend crowds got up there! (There has been very little snow in the mountains this winter. And typically, as soon as there is some, everybody and their brother in San Diego heads up there to play in it!)

We didn't tell the kids what we were doing. As I packed their winter boots (that they got for Christmas and have practically never worn) I thought they might guess what we were doing. They didn't. I packed layers of pants, mittens, hats, etc. On the the drive we told the kids we were going to the mountains where it's cold. They still didn't guess! Then we told them to check out the white stuff in the mountains and on the side of the roads. Jackson kept guessing that the white stuff was "garbage!" :-)

Finally, they figured it out and got really excited!! We kept driving until the snow was deeper and covering the entire ground. Then we found a great place to park and play. It was really warm - probably 55 degrees - so we didn't even need coats. (I wore one because I'm the continually cold one.)

We had great time just throwing snow and having extremely mild snowball "fights." We taught the kids how fun it is to fall into the snow because it's soft. We made a giant snowman and teeny one. Dick and Jackson made snow angels. We "hiked" a little. The kids liked it for the most part. At first they didn't care for walking in it... and they got a little tired after a while (and had no nap that day). So we left before they got too cranky. We wanted it to be a good experience!
