Getting caught up

I can't believe it's been nine days since I last blogged! And I've been off work and Dick's been home to help out... We've just been hanging out and keeping busy in a slow, home-bound way I guess.

As you know this blog is certainly to keep family and friends up to date on our goings-ons but it's primarily a place for me to record our babies' stories. I want to make sure I write things down so I remember them later!

Christmas 2009 was very fine. The kids are still too young to understand what's going on but they started to get the hang of it. The both thought the Christmas Tree was very pretty and they got pretty excited about just standing and looking at it - and talking to it. :-) While we didn't put any ornaments on it (!) we did put lights on. Blame it on our own laziness with a little bit of hesitancy with regards to the kids removing the ornaments as well.

I got really excited about giving gifts to the kids. Weeks before Christmas I looked online to get ideas and saw lots of cool stuff I wanted for them. I feel terrible about it but it was fun! I can see how parents can get totally carried away with the "stuff" of Christmas. I did end up buying the majority of their gifts used from Craig's list but took a trip to Toys R Us as well. I do have to admit that it was the first time I'd been there for my own kids. Needless to say, they had way more presents than they needed. In addition to the stuff we got them, presents and more presents came in the mail from grandmama, Topher and Aunt Debbie and family. And more presents came in from grandma and grandpa Rol and Aunt Mary and Uncle Darren as well.

On Christmas morning I had to wake the kids up around 8:30 or 9:00 I think! They've been sleeping later and later, at least partly because they've had colds. But also maybe partly because they're pretty much down to one nap now. (They sleep 14 hours a night, every night!) I showed the kids their presents and how to pull back the paper to find a treat inside. As soon as Jackson got the first present open, both kids went to play with it. And that was it! We had to pull their attention away from current toys to get them to open the new ones! It was pretty funny. They actually had a few presents left about a week later that we finally got them to open. :-)

Highlights of their presents are the two-seater wagon from grandmama. More balls and Little People stuff from mommy and daddy/santa. Cute custom t-shirts from grandma and grandpa Rol. Awesome place settings from Uncle Darren and Aunt Mary. And light-up/noise-making personalized cell phones from cousin Topher. They really liked everything they got and they play with many, many toys every day.

Christmas day was pretty mellow around here. I didn't feel like spending the time on a big meal so we had left-over chili that Dick had made the night before. Since the kids were sick we just hung around the house and played. And we took a nice wagon ride. As you can see, we stayed in our jammies all day!
