Course, I've given away the end of the story but... let me start from the beginning.
Every once in a while my local grocery store will have fresh swordfish. I really like swordfish (even though it's high in mercury) and FRESH (never frozen!) swordfish is the best (only?) way to serve it. Icing on the cake? It was on sale! So I was conservative and got just one steak figuring Dick and I could split it over some pasta or something.
At dinnertime I got the idea to serve the swordfish over a nice, light salad. I had some lovely organic mixed greens, broke a bunch of cilantro into it, sliced tomatoes and a lovely, light Newman's Own vinegar and oil dressing. I tossed it all together while the swordfish and some mini sweet peppers were broiling.
My mouth watering, the swordfish was finally done and I was carrying the glass cake pan that I cooked it in three feet to the counter where I was going to transfer the fish to a cutting board to slice it before placing it on top of the salad. Then BANG! The dish popped and cracked in my hand, steaming hot glass pieces fell to the ground and on the counter top, along with my perfectly-cooked swordfish! UGH! (No one was hurt, babies were in bed.)
By the time I cleaned up the floor (don't want shards of glass where babies crawl) and threw out our salads (could be glass shards in there too) I didn't feel like cooking another dinner! And nothing but this exact salad sounds good. While the pieces of glass cool on the stove Dick is picking up a $5 footlong for us to share. Sad, sad consolation prize...
It's funny how it's not a big deal in the big picture of the world, my life, etc. But I'm really disappointed. I don't make nice meals like this very often.
Hopefully, there are no glass shards in the apple oat crisp that was cooling on top of the stove. I was so looking forward to giving that to the babies tomorrow! Dang it!
