Well, it's been about a week now that J & V are partying through their afternoon nap! They're playing and jumping and having a grand time making each other laugh. It's actually pretty cute but also frustrating because they're supposed to be napping. I'm not sure why but any time they're in bed and not sleeping, it makes me anxious... (like from 3-4 am this morning!)
Their morning nap has moved later, at least partly because the nanny arrives at 9 (when they used to go down for their nap) and they are excited and want to play with her. They've been sleeping for usually 1.5 hours in the morning from 10-11:30.
I guess what we probably need to do is try to push that nap back to 11 or 12 (eventually 1?) and then stop doing the afternoon nap. It won't be a fun transition because I may have crabby babies on my hands both before the am nap and before bed. But two naps doesn't seem to be working anymore so, guess we have to try it.
(One of the biggest thing I've learned about parenting is that it's trial and error. As much as I would like to find a rule book and just follow the rules, no one knows but my kids and I what they need next.)
Selfishly, I really like the second nap because I get home from work, feed them a bottle and put them to bed. Then I can blog (like now!) and get paperwork done or whatever. But I suppose once we get the one nap to 12 or 1, I'll still have some time after work (I get home at 1:30) to do stuff.
Here are some photos of the babies in one of the new bath towels with hoods that Aunt Carol made them:

Jen, I wouldn't do that yet! I went through this with Max, and now he's back to one nap. You could 1) push up the morning nap - have them in their cribs before the nanny arrives. 2)roll with it on the off days when they ditch a nap... I had to do that quite a bit for a while. 3) night wakings... I have been wondering how other people were dealing with this. Shoghi has been waking sometimes for 2 hours and crying... it's been awful. We should talk more aobut this!

It is kinda funny that we DO make our own rules... hmm never thought of it that way...
ReplyDeletethey look so warm and snuggly :) A rule book wouldn't work anyway because the kids change so often :( or is that :)? whatever, you're doing a great job just in recognizing that they change and you change with them.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it is totally trial and error!!!! And since every baby is different, that complicates things more. Olivia only takes one two hour nap a day (between one and threeish) but she sleeps 13 hours a night (7:30pm to 8:30am) And who knows, maybe that will change tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAdorable - they are getting so big!!
